There are so many things to do in the Bala area, it’s really no wonder that tourism in this beautiful region is evergreen. There’s just so much to do, there is no real “best” time of year to come to Wales, especially if you’re the type of person that doesn’t get brought down by the weather! Every time of year is amazing with this many attractions in the area, and the wind and the rain even in Winter really can’t bring a dampener on that.

One of the best attractions in the area is the Bala Lake Railway, which is situated in the pretty village of Llanuwchllyn. Known to locals as Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid, (and it’s that charming that more than one or two of the locals can’t resist taking a ride themselves!) this charming narrow-gauge railway allows for a 9 mile long return journey which takes you through the dazzling scenery of the gorgeous Snowdonia National Park.

The narrow gauge railway features very many things which we’re certain will make the experience absolutely magical – even from the start of your journey. The village of Lanuwchllyn, for instance, is absolutely picturesque, providing handy conveniences such as free car-parking, refreshments, a small (but so cute!) gift shop, toilets, and picnic tables for any light bites you might choose to indulge in before your trip. This lovely little village essentially has everything you need to ensure that you can spend all of your time focusing on the pretty scenery and the excitement at seeing these fantastic trains, and not anything else!

You’ll pass the remarkable Caer Gai, as well as make your way through Pentrepiod, before passing Llangower and Llwyngwair Village, before coming through to Bala Town. The route is finished off wonderfully with a straight and narrow track right next to Bala Lake – and on a clear day you will be able to see the true beauty of this gorgeous natural body of water. Even better, Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid is only 35 minutes drive away from our beautiful Holiday Park in Bala, Snowdonia.

The Bala Lake Railway has a lot of special events throughout the year, and 2018 seems to be no exception. With Easter Egg Hunts, St David’s Day Celebrations, Unique Race the Train events, and of course the Bala Lake Festival of Transport (just to name a few things!) we’re certain that whenever you come on by to our lovely Holiday Park in Bala, there will certainly be something amazing on which will delight and entertain all of the family.
